Certification Session Guidelines / Fees | Clinicians

Attention club manager / owner! In our experience, part of the formula for keeping racquetball courts alive and generating revenue, is to make sure your Racquetball Coordinator is AmPro Certified. Your members will be assured your club's racquetball department has a professional representative.

Times have changed.... The era of the long term club membership contract has past. It's imperative now for health & fitness facilities to please their members every month, or they quickly loose memberships with the stroke of a pen.
That being said, let's apply it to a club's racquetball department...
The general manager, of any club with racquetball courts, needs this department to be revenue-generating - almost more than any other department in the club. A racquetball court is the most difficult floor-space in a club to justify. One court is 800 square feet [not to mention 20 feet tall] with a maximum of 4 members on the floor at a time - per hour! Plus, racquetball is usually played in the early morning before work, from 5:30am to about 7:30am and during "prime time" from about 5pm, until the club closes - between 9/10pm. When the owner/general manager cruises the club during the nearly 9 hours of "down time", the racquetball courts are, for most of this time, empty. Tough to justify! Consequently, if a club has 5 court [4,000 sq ft], very soon courts will magically become home to department's activities other than racquetball, if the courts are not popery programmed.

It's rare to find a club with a full time Racquetball Director. For the most part, a club's racquetball coordinator is a relatively good player that understands, and can explain, [most of] the rules of the game - participates as a "club representative" during the evening's prime time hours a minimum of three times per week - runs a challenge once/twice per week - organizes a league 3/4/ times a year - and teaches. This doesn't cost the club more than a complimentary membership for the RB coordinator. It's a fare tradeoff. The success of the RB program is directly determined by how much passion, time and effort the RB coordinator puts into it.

The RB coordinator can make money following the club's revenue sharing guidelines. Usually the RB coordinator gets a percentage of lessons and league fees. Anything beyond that is determined by how creative the RB coordinator can be and stay within the club's guidelines. Acquiring Corporate sponsors is another great way to generate additional revenue.

Once a club member learns that the Racquetball Coordinator is "AmPro Certified", this member will be more inclined to take a lesson, become involved in a league, participate in challenge court, etc.....

  Session Guidelines & Fees:

AmPro Certification Sessions usually take about 2 days. Saturday [9am to 5pm] and Sunday [9am until noon]. We try to hold sessions at clubs centrally located throughout the Atlanta metro area. Our main objective is to make sure you know how to teach racquetball to a player starting from scratch. Hitting a kill shot is sometimes easier for an experienced player than hitting the ball in a controlled manner, right back to the student's backhand, every time. We also touch on what to do in the club outside the court. Your relationship with your club's general manager is key to the success of your program.
  the entry fee is $225.00
  renewal fee - $30.00
You must be a member of the Georgia Racquetball Association - $30.00 per year. If you are not currently a GRA member, you may include this fee with your payment and we will take care of your United States Racquetball Association membership.

  Staff:

Gary Gloeggler - 678-575-6579 - AmPro Certified Professional Clinician
Home club organization: Regional Racquetball Director - LA Fitness / Atlanta
Originally from New York, Gary brings class and experience to the court. His enthusiasm for racquetball is contagious - helping new players understand the game from scratch, to advising the experienced tournament player as to how to improve their game.

Danny Eckley - 404-784-5327 - AmPro Certified Professional Instructor
Home club - Racquet Sports Director - Athletic Club Northeast
"I have fun teaching. It's great to see the look in a player's eyes when they first get it. I teach a bit out of the box - the intangibles intrigue me, combined with the obvious need-to-know aspects of the game."

Becoming AmPro Certified includes understanding the importance of the relationship you build with your club's members, as well as how you interact with the other department directors of your club. As veterans of racquetball programming in health & fitness clubs, we believe we can help you gain an advantage to this challenge.
